Newcomers

So, you would like to get involved in Carriage Driving. Great decision. Carriage driving is one of the most fun horsey pursuits in which to be involved.

Firstly, you might like to check out what clubs are nearby to you. Check out the Clubs page or click on the map, find a club close by to you and send off an email to the Club Secretary.

You could also take a look at the Calendar and just head off to an event for a look.

Make yourself known to the organisers or volunteer to help for a few hours. You will quickly meet people and learn how things work.

Once you join a club you will find out where there are lesson days or other interesting activities to help you on your way.

How else can you get involved? You don’t need to be a driver to be welcomed into the Carriage Driving circle of friends.  Carriage drivers often need another set of helping hands.   If a driver needs someone to stand or sit on the carriage with them, they will give you training in this skill and explain what is required.  This may require a bit of physical effort and could seem daunting at first.  But it is heaps of fun and you will learn a lot about the various aspects of carriage driving.

Maybe Volunteering is more your thing. Carriage Driving competitions require lots of helpers.   If you would feel more comfortable helping out, then there are plenty of varied tasks to do.

You may be asked to use a stopwatch or mark off drivers as they go past. You might go around the course and pick up the score sheets, getting a good view of the drivers as they go through their paces.  Perhaps entering results on an Ipad/tablet would be more suited to your liking.

Our sport cannot run without volunteers, so you will be very much appreciated if you can help out. You will be well looked after with food and refreshments and on the job training.  If volunteering appeals to you, just make contact with the event organisers listed on the Calendar.

Whatever way you would like to be involved, the carriage driving fraternity will welcome you.
